The Pittsburgh Steelers
vs. The New England Patriots
10.31.2004
/ Heinz Field / Pittsburgh
This
site was really meant only for reviews of live shows and the hijinks that
ensued. And there’s an argument to be made that once I expand this
to reviews of just anything, I could damn well include the shitty time
I had recently running all over the city with my hometown buddies as my
single friend insisted we go someplace where he could find some “pussy.”
I’m a fish out of water once I move past the old man, dive bar scene.
But hell, I’m not one to really care about going to Steelers’
games and that’s why this one rocked so much. This team has been
on fire and ever since the rookie Rothelisberger took over as quarterback
the city has been coming alive again. We really have nothing else going
for us; we’re fucked financially, the schools suck, downtown is
empty, U.S. Airways is bankrupt, the Port Authority is raising fares and
eliminating night and weekend service. Shall I go on?
So it takes a 5-1 season to
get our hopes up. You may call all those people in the parking lot tailgaters
but I call it a catharsis. Thanks to a call from my buddy Tom, I was racing
down the hill at about 1:30 for a 4 P.M. start against the unbeaten for
21 games New England Patriots. Being Halloween night I expected a rowdy
crowd so I brought the camera along.
I was up in the nosebleed seats
and not sitting next to anyone I knew but I had solace in the fact that
I was able to smuggle two beers into the stadium. Ben $12.00, Heinz Field
$0. Then this game really stared to take off. Three touchdowns in under
four clock minutes in the first quarter? I never would have guessed it.
The whole stadium was going wild. You could see it in everybody’s
faces that we had something to believe in again. The Steelers went on
to win it 34-20. Thanks in large part to my neighbors Ben and Plaxico.
O.K. They only live in the same ward (here
& here)
but I’m calling them my neighbors from now own. PITTSBURGH’S
GOIN’ TO THE SUPERBOWL! HERE WE GO!
