 I picked up this band’s disk from EMusic and was pleasantly surprised. It reminded me of my carefree, mid-college aimless summer days. So with these guys coming to Club Café it seemed like a no-brainer.
Problem is, Wifey and I were invited to one of these multi-friend bar meet-ups. So after standing in Jack’s for about 15 minutes, looking utterly bored, I motioned over to Wifey that I was bailing and she didn’t blame me. For some reason I walked right into Club Café like I owned the place and nobody asked me to pay cover.
The place was jammed with hippies, and right away I heard some of the “old-school” Assembly of Dusters lament the fact that the last time they were here this place was “empty, man!” Every scene gets spoiled, right.
Problem is, this band didn’t make much of a scene. Not tonight at least. Wifey finally joined me and verified what had been bothering me since I got there. The sound just wasn’t loud enough. Or something. The band’s energy just wasn’t moving off the stage to the crowd of willing twirlers and this made for a somewhat stale performance. Realizing it wouldn’t get much better; we bailed for the mean streets of the North Side.
At the Bierhaus, friends Billy and Aaron were onstage as The Transcontinental Booze Hounds and upon opening the door the place was filled with smoke from the smoke machine that Aaron rents for each show there. The shit was so thick I stood right onstage next to the guys and they didn’t even realize I was there. Shenanigans ensued and after numerous 24oz drafts we called it a night.
