 Wifey and I headed out to this not knowing what we were getting into. An opening reception of sorts for local arts collective Unicorn Mountain, some bands were playing to celebrate the new comic just released by said group. I understood that Tehran Iran was made up of various members from other bands but got excited when Tommy Amoeba tipped me off that they were going to perform a set full of Duran Duran covers. I was embarrassed that I hadn’t figured it out earlier.
So beginning with “Planet Earth,” Duran Duran was channeled through a 4 piece of characters dressed in Middle Eastern garb. Next up was the hit of the night, “Rio,” as the 40 or so in attendance sang along and relived their best moments from the 80’s (I’m assuming everyone was 30+ which is probably untrue). Following an electric “View to a Kill” was a touching “Save a Prayer”. They ended the short set with the Seagulls’ “I Ran” and then an explosive “Some Like It Hot.” Who knew Grand Buffet’s Grape-A-Don had so much Palmer bottled up inside him. And that was it. A peak into Gooski’s and a few beers at Sarney’s and we headed home.
