The Supersuckers / 05.02.2006
Rex Theatre / Pittsburgh, PA
With Pearl Jam hogging the press and being hailed as the last band standing from Seattle’s storied 90’s music scene, a group of true rockers are still pounding it out night after night and for only $13 a ticket. OK, so maybe I a little sore that I’m paying $64 to see Mr. Anti-Ticketmaster next month but does it really take that much to put on a show? Eddie Spaghetti knows it doesn’t. He’ll blow the fucking doors off any joint with his Greatest Rock 'N' Roll Band in the World and throw in the cock-swagger for free.
The drinking probably wasn’t up to what it should have been for this show but I got a late start and with only enough time for a beer at Dee’s I was the The Rex at 9:20 and The Supersuckers had already taken the stage. Make that one Supersucker, as Eddie Spaghetti was alone doing some material from his recent solo disk and a few covers. After about 30 minutes the rest of the band joined him and what followed was a classic example of how you treat an audience of fans for 15 plus years of devotion.
Guitars pointed to the heavens (perhaps taunting the man above?), Eddie and the boys tore into tasty rock and roll riffs that sent the throngs of thirty-plus-year-old tattooed tough guys into a tizzy and moshing on the floor below. It was quite a performance and the band pulled no punches as they tore through colorful songs such as ”Rock-N-Roll Records (Ain't Selling This Year)", “Heavy Heart” and “Pretty Fucked Up.” Throw in the fake encore and I’ll happily refund my Pearl Jam tickets to see these guys five more times. Whaddaya say Eddie?]
