 I
had a hunch that this was going to be a great band. Anything less wouldn’t
be good enough, as I had to put favorable marital relations on the line
to make it out to this one.
It seemed easy enough as wifey
uncharacteristically fell asleep shortly after 10 P.M. I figured I’d
give her a little nudge, “I’m going to Club Café, be
back in a few.” Oops, she woke up, and I got the “isn’t
it late, what time is it?” deal. We quickly went over every time
I’ve gone out without her but I wasn’t losing this one and
was out the door.
Unfortunately Club Café
was sparsely attended on this Thursday night as I headed towards the back
where Dave and Michelle of Dave’s
Music Mine were. These two are live music machines and rarely can
you go to a show here and not see Dave holding court in the back. Well,
he was lettin’ loose tonight and after offering me a drink (Yager
bomb? Sorry, I was thinking about the drive home) he mentioned that Rosavelt
is one of his current top five bands. This is no small feat considering
he’s at Club Café a couple times a week.
Turns out he was right. I was
falling out of favor with the alt country types but this band restores
my faith in the genre. These guys are tight with engaging songs and put
on a good show despite the tiny crowd. Being from Cleveland, they should
be back here eventually and I hope to bring some friends. At the merch
table Dave was blabbering about getting these guys some airtime on WYEP.
Hopefully that wasn’t just drunk talk.
Let me just note that I suppressed
any tendencies to make a night of this and do a little bar hopping. I
headed straight home and was the good husband. Thank God for this as wifey
was up when I got home. A drunken stumble through the door after 2 A.M.
would have put me in the doghouse for sure.
