Paul Luc / St. James Tavern

 I’d been working with Paul since last May and had been hearing stories about his past bands and musical exploits but it never really clicked until he sang a few songs on his living room floor at a party at his house a couple of months ago. I was taken aback by the deep soulful voice coming out of that skinny little frame. Send Ray LaMontagne back to the shoe factory, there’s a new white soul singer in town.
Wifey and I were supposed to be meeting some friends at the St. James Tavern but they were held up at the Dee’s pool tables so we went ahead of them and they missed the whole performance.
Not really knowing what to expect with the whole band, Wifey and I were quickly exchanging “These guys are really good” looks at each other as Paul and his three band mates rocked out the comfy back room of St. James. I guess I was expecting more of a singer-songwriter act but they stepped out of that shadow from the get-go. Of note is the keyboardist, Whitey, a child prodigy I’m told that not only kicks ass on keyboard but doesn’t bother hiding it either as he’s constantly smiling and having a good time.
These guys need a band name and are coming out with an album soon. Can’t wait.
