The Mendoza Line /
Great Lake Swimmers
03.12.2006 / Garfield Artworks / Pittsburgh, PA
Hugh must have wet his pants when he heard of this show. I got there and couldn’t find him and asked Manny and he was like “Hugh’s been here for three hours already.” So there was no excuse to miss this one.
A crowd of 40 or so folks came out on this Sunday night. I missed the opener Elliot Brood.
Great Lake Swimmers come out and this time it’s just Tony Dekker and Erik Arnesan without the full band. The played a laid back set that kept the audience at attention. There aren’t many voices as understated as Tony’s today that can command a room like he does.
A brief siesta and The Mendoza Line come out and play a rocking set. They performed a number of songs of their great recent disk Full of Light and Full of Fire and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. This thing you notice right away is that rarely do you see such genuine affection displayed onstage as exhibited tonight by husband and wife team of Timothy Bracy and Shannon McArdle. You would have thought these two were the only ones in the room during their performance of "It's A Long Line."
Highlights include the “All-Star jam” prompted by Hugh that brought up the Great Lake Swimmers for a cover of “Honky Tonk Woman” and a great version of “Mysterious in Black.”
